La Valpelline, unspoiled valley
Valpelline is the longest lateral valley in the region. From Aosta it goes up to the border with Switzerland where it culminates with the glaciers and the summit of Dent d’Hérens (4,171 m), a beautiful mountain alongside the Matterhorn. To the east it is separated from Valtournenche by the sharp ridges of the Grandes Murailles while to the west it borders the Gran San Bernardo valley and Mont Vélan (3,727 m).
